Tator Tot Casserole – Kevin’s Savory

Found on the web in Fall 2004

Ingredients
  

  • 1 1/2 pounds lean grounded beef I use 3 pound
  • 1/2 onion chopped
  • 4 cups frozen vegetables I use one 16 ounce bag
  • 1 19 ounce can cream of chicken soup (I use two 10 3/4 ounce cans)
  • If frying you need twice as much soup, so four 10 3/4 cans
  • 1 32 ounce package Tator Tots

Instructions
 

Normal Method

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Spray 9×13 glass baking dish with cooking spray.
  • Spread hamburger into bottom of pan, covering entire bottom evenly, gently tamping beef down. Sprinkle with diced onions.
  • Layer frozen vegies as next layer.
  • Cover with the soup, straight from the can, carefully spreading with spatula to cover entirely.
  • Layer tator tops on top, covering antire top with tots.
  • Bake 325 degrees for one hour or until hamburger is done. Check after 30 minutes; if tots are getting to brown, turn down to 300 degrees.

3 pound of meat Method

  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Spray 9×13 glass baking dish with cooking spray.
  • Spread hamburger into bottom of pan, covering entire bottom evenly, gently tamping beef down.
  • Bake for 45 (was 30 min but came out raw'ish) minutes.
  • Sprinkle with diced onions, cook 10 minutes
  • Layer frozen veggies as next layer.
  • Cover with the soup, straight from the can, carefully spreading with spatula to cover entirely.
  • Layer tator tops on top, covering entire top with tots.
  • Bake 325 degrees for one hour or until hamburger is done. Check after 30 minutes; if tots are getting to brown, turn down to 300 degrees.

Frying 3 pound of meat Method

  • This method use twice as much soup but makes sure meat is cook thoroughly.
  • Preheat oven to 325 degrees. Spray 9×13 glass baking dish with cooking spray.
  • 1.5 Fry meat until almost golden brown. Add onions and continuing frying onions are tender.
  • Spread hamburger into bottom of pan, covering entire bottom evenly.
  • Layer frozen vegies as next layer.
  • Cover with the soup, straight from the can, carefully spreading with spatula to cover entirely.
  • Layer tator tops on top, covering entire top with tots.
  • Bake 325 degrees for one hour or until hamburger is done. Check after 45 minutes; if tots are getting to brown, turn down to 300 degrees or cover with aluminum foil.
